Saiu uma atualização para os Treos 750 e 750v , o update de número/versão 2.18 é para transformar , sem volta, o WM5  em WM6.

Esta atualização promete uma melhora no Calendário, com uma interface melhor. Uma melhorada no programa de E-mail, comando por voz no bluetooth , carregamento via cabo USB (o meu 680 ja faz isto) .

Tem uma serie de restrições para fazer o update, desde ter o ActiveSync 4.5 instalado antes de começar o update , até o numero de vezes que podera fazer o download, então tenha cuidado ao tentar.

Este upadate só estará disponível até 31 de outubro de 2008 (piada né, mas esta escrito no site da Palm).

What does this update do?

This update provides:

System Requirements:

• Palm™ Treo™ 750v or Treo 750 smartphone. This software will not work on any other Windows Mobile® devices.
• Windows® 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista™
• Internet Explorer® version 6 or higher on desktop PC.
• Minimum screen resolution of 800×600 on desktop PC.
• Smartphone must be connected to power adapter and the synchronisation cable throughout the update.
• ActiveSync® 4.5 (You must install ActiveSync 4.5 before running the installation) or Windows Mobile Device Centre (Windows Vista)
  To check your version of ActiveSync
  • On your desktop PC, right-click the ActiveSync icon in the Windows system tray.
  • Select ‘Open Microsoft ActiveSync’.
  • The Microsoft ActiveSync window will open. From the Help menu, select ‘About Microsoft ActiveSync’

Restrictions and Information

• There is a limit of one download per customer. Please ensure you retain your copy of your download on your computer because you will not be able to obtain another copy once you start the download process.
• Once you install this download on your device, you will not be able to revert back to Windows Mobile 5.0.
• Palm Windows Mobile 6 does not support the Blackberry Connect (BBC) service. Please do not install this update if you use the BBC service on the Treo 750v otherwise you will no longer be able to use that service on your device.
• This particular download is available only until 31st October 2008.

Do you need this update?

To check if your Treo 750/750v is eligible for the Updater follow these steps:

1. Press ‘Start’ , and then select ‘Settings’.
2. Select the ‘System tab’. Tap ‘About’, and select the ‘Phone’ tab.
3. Look at the Software Version. What do you see?

If you see a Software Version that is LESS THAN TREO750-2.18-XXX,

YES, you should install this update.

Note: Devices with software versions equal to or higher than that stated above need not take this update. In the Software Version string referenced above, the version number (shown in red) is the signifier to tell whether or not your device needs this update.
Once you have updated your device, your smartphone will show TREO750-2.18-XXX (Note: “XXX” refers to a code for your specific carrier).

Before you start:

Do not stop the update before it is finished. Like any important software update for computing devices it is possible for your device to become unusable if the update process is interrupted during a critical phase.
Running applications or browsing the Internet on the desktop PC during the update is not advised. Ensure that ActiveSync is not currently synchronising or running in the background prior to executing the Treo update. These activities may interfere with the updater process.

IMPORTANT! WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

During the installation process, some customers may encounter a scenario in which the device becomes unresponsive. If you experience this scenario, there is a recovery tool available to reset your device. Please refer to the Recovery Tool for Treo™ 750/750v updater 2.18 to recover your device. Once your device has been reset, you can then proceed with the update process again.

Do Not …

• Have ActiveSync 4.5 installed on your desktop PC.
• Connect your smartphone to the USB ActiveSync cable and complete a synchronisation before installing the update. ActiveSync should say “Connected” with the green icon, but not be currently synchronising, when you run the update.
• Connect the cable directly to a USB port on your desktop PC. Cradles, docking stations and USB hubs may interfere with the upgrade process.
• Turn off anti-virus software, screen savers and power saving on your desktop PC.
• If using a laptop, ensure it has power for at least 60-90 minutes.
• Make sure that your smartphone has at least 4 MB available storage memory (how to check).
• Unlock your device by entering the password/pin and turn off any passwords, Owner Information (if enabled) on the device.
• Disable the ActiveSync option to “sync items as they arrive” if you are using it; instead, set your device to synchronise on a schedule or not at all during the update.
• Save this update locally to your desktop or to a CD or expansion card before running it on your Treo 750/750v. Due to Microsoft® requirements only one download is allowed per device serial number. Saving the update locally will ensure that it is readily available should you need to use it again.
• Consult the Troubleshooting tips if you have any difficulty with this update

• Install this update if you are using Blackberry Connect (BBC). Palm Windows Mobile 6 does not support the BBC service.
• Pick up or move your smartphone during the update. This can cause the cable to lose connection and halt the update.
• Lock or suspend your desktop PC during the update.
• Use Bluetooth wireless to connect with your desktop PC during the update; instead use the USB ActiveSync cable.
• Remove the synchronisation cable during the update.
• Remove the battery from your smartphone during the update.
• Remove the power adapter cable during the update.
• Have a miniSD card in the device when installing this update.

Installation Instructions
Find out which version to download:

1. Press ‘Start’ , and then select ‘Settings’.
2. Select the ‘System tab’. Tap ‘About’, and select the ‘Phone’ tab.
3. Look at the Software Version ‘Treo 750-1.1X-XXX’ Click the corresponding link to download the updater.
   You must use a desktop PC and a USB synchronisation cable to install this update; it cannot be installed wirelessly.

   These downloads are for English language devices only do not download these files for any other language.
   Save the file to your PC before running the update, due to Microsoft download restrictions only one download is available to each serial number. Ensure you have good internet connectivity (strong Wi-Fi signal etc..) to avoid having an interrupted data session.

4. The ‘Today’ screen (seen in image below) should be visible before you proceed. To access this screen, simply press the ‘OK’ button on your keypad until the ‘Today’ screen is visible.

   

5. Unzip the file you downloaded and save to your PC. Make a note of the location to which the file was Unzipped to.
6. Double-click the .EXE file to begin the update. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the desktop part of the updater.

Connect Your Device:

When this screen appears, ensure your device is connected to your computer and is also charging.

Do not remove the cable before the update is completed!!!

When you are ready, click ‘Start Update’.

Update Begins:

This screen will allow you to track the progress of the update.  

As the screens progress please follow the instructions on your smartphone to continue the update

Attention Required:

Please follow the setup instructions on your smartphone to continue the update.

When you have completed the setup instructions on the smartphone on the PC you will see the ‘Welcome to the Pocket PC Sync Setup Wizard’ screen select ‘Cancel’ to establish the ActiveSync connection

Press ‘Continue’ on the ‘Attention Required’ screen when done

Update Complete:

When the update is completed, you will see the following screen. Click the ‘Finish’ button to close the Update window.

On successful update your smartphone’s Software version number will be Treo750-2.18-XXX
